About Charlie
Charlie Bass has spent his life trying to figure out problems - and then fix them. Whether he is rebuilding old cars in his barn, working to find clean sustainable energy solutions, or writing legislation to protect New Hampshire taxpayers - Charlie is always working on, "a better way."
He understands first-hand the
financial burdens many small businesses face today - including high tax rates
and skyrocketing insurance costs - because Charlie spent years helping to build
a successful small business here in New Hampshire. Currently, he serves
on the Board of Managers at New England Wood Pellet in Jaffrey, one of the
leading producers of clean-burning wood pellets for residential and commercial
heat and power. Charlie is also a senior advisor to Laidlaw Energy Group,
a company that is converting the former Fraser Pulp and Paper site in Berlin to
a clean, wood-chip burning, energy plant
In the political arena, Charlie
has served in both chambers of the New Hampshire legislature and as a member of
the United States Congress. His record of fighting for policies that
create jobs, cut spending, reduce the burden of unfunded federal mandates,
promote alternative energies, and ensure the highest ethical standards in
office has earned him the respect of colleagues and constituents on both sides
of the aisle.
Always willing to buck party
leadership in the interest of his constituents, Charlie has earned a reputation
as a strong, independent voice for New Hampshire. While exploring a run for
Congress, the one comment he heard more than any other, is, "Charlie, you're
the only candidate who can go down to Washington and straighten out this mess
starting day one." This feedback, along with his desire to find solutions to
the significant financial and energy related problems our nation faces, is why
he made the decision to run.
Now a candidate for Congress in
NH's 2nd District, Charlie is determined to go to Washington and
make government work for the people it represents. His Yankee frugality,
pragmatism, dogged determination, and problem-solving skills are exactly what
is needed on Capitol Hill.
Charlie is a graduate of
Dartmouth College and resides in Peterborough with his wife and two children.
